Can any of my foursquare using friends explain the point of the Swarm app?

@option8 It’s a check-in app to connect with your nearby friends. No points and badges. Mayorships between friends only.
@option8 they are trying to make four square more like a yelp than a checkin app. Kind of annoying. I’m not liking Swarm.
